Wrong-Way DUI Driver Sentenced to 10 Years in Prison

Angel Luis Sanabria-Diaz received a 10-year sentence after being convicted of driving on a revoked license, driving under the influence while causing serious harm and being a habitual traffic offender. This sentence is the longest term possible for people who are found guilty on these charges under Florida state law.

The DUI crash in question occurred on March 6, when he was driving his pickup truck westbound in the eastbound side of SR 44. He crashed into another vehicle in a head-on collision, resulting in serious injuries to the other driver that led to a long-term hospitalization period.

Police records of the incident show that Sanabria-Diaz got out of the car after the accident and agreed to perform sobriety tests for the officer that responded to the scene… after relieving himself next to the officer’s patrol vehicle. He failed all of the tests that the officer administered. At .25, his blood-alcohol content was measured at being more than three times the legal limit in Florida law of .08. An open can of beer was also found in his pickup truck. All of the charges he received were classified as felonies, which was the reason for the maximum sentence. He also admitted to drinking and for being guilty of causing the accident at the scene of the crash.

He had also been charged with three previous DUIs, with convictions coming in 1987, 1999 and 2010.

Motorists who operate their vehicles while intoxicated could face steep penalties if they end up causing a serious crash. If you’ve been injured in a drunk driving-related auto accident, consult a dedicated Orlando personal injury lawyer with the Law Offices of Salazar & Kelly today.
